DUNELIGHT is selected to land this listed contest where Ordnance Row and Il Warrd could prove the biggest threats while respect also has to be awarded to Almajd who failed to act on the polytrack on his seasonal debut but surely has more to offer back on turf. Third in the Betfair Cup at Goodwood last time, Dunelight did get a soft lead when setting the early fractions in that race but even so his proximity to an improving sort like Paco Boy when conceding weight was no mean performance. He is an extremely consistent sort and although he has yet to score at trips at less than one mile, that is not a huge concern given his running style while drying ground conditions will be in his favour. Speaking of consistent performers, they do not come much tougher than Ordnance Row who is as tough as they come and regardless of the grade is rarely disgraced. He won the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury last time beating Laa Rayb who subsequently franked the form in France. The slight concern is that this may be slightly on the sharp side. IL Warrd was touted as an outsider for 2000 Guineas glory having landed the Easter Stakes at Kempton earlier this season. Injury prevented a classic bid but since finishing second in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot he has posted two rather indifferent performances. He has showed a tendency to race keenly in the past and if allowed to race more prominently he might prove a danger to all. Almajd had a delayed start to this years campaign but when he did return connections looked to have found him a simple task to open his account. He never travelled in that and is worth another chance to prove his worth. Royal Vintage was withdrawn due to the bottomless ground at Goodwood earlier this month however, his lack of race fitness is the worry. Captain Marvelous could reward those seeking some value as he needs a strongly run seven furlongs to be seen at his best while first time headgear is now applied. Beaver Patrol is a fast ground specialist who opportunities are few and far between while six furlongs is his optimum trip. Kalahari Gold makes his first step into pattern company and being a horse who is rapidly improving he could surprise a few but Dunelight is the pick.
