In depth

Verdict

Another very competitive affair here, with a couple of course and distance winners in Windermere and Persian Punch in the line-up but preference is for Fight Your Corner. Persian Punch has been a great servant to David Elsworth and is again likely to run his race, but giving weight away all around against younger horses is a big ask at this stage of his career. At the other end of the list is Windermere, who showed he retains his ability when defeating Bangalore at Ripon first time out this season. Both trip and ground should suit him and he can confirm those placings with Amanda Perrett's runner here. Gamut and Fight Your Corner are already both course winners here. The former is trained by in-form Sir Michael Stoute and is making the step up in trip from 12 furlongs here, but the indications are that he will get home. He is likely to be straight enough for his first run of the season, but will have to perform well to best some more seasoned campaigners here. The selection though is for Fight Your Corner, now that the Godolphin runners have started to perform well. Good enough to be fifth in last year's Derby, a run in Dubai a couple of months back will have blown off the cobwebs. A horse with a turn of foot, he too is going further than ever, but with a decent pace likely, Frankie Dettori can use that to good effect and reward the team for their patience with a Listed win here.
