Alfie Noakes could hardly have been more impressive than when slamming his rivals here over 1m2f last month but a combination of the longer trip, a 12lb higher mark and the fact that he now faces older rivals for the first time makes Amanda Perrett's colt one to take on at the odds and the vote goes instead to Mandatum, who is preferred to Hiddensee. The selection is not the most straightforward of animals but is very capable on his day as when making all at Salisbury in June. Only beaten a short head when stepped up in trip at Newmarket last time, Luca Cumani's gelding looks worth another chance. Top weight Turnstile is now 6lbs higher than when landing a Hamilton handicap last time and this looks tougher so of more interest may be Mark Johnston's Hiddensee, who is a lightly-campaigned three-year-old and may be open to more improvement - particularly over today's trip. The nine-year-old Wait For The Will can never be discounted although it would be a surprise if he was good enough to win this, while Garden Society now looks to be handicapped on his better all-weather form than his turf form. Charlie Egerton's Valance is another to consider but the vote goes to Mandatum, who remains relatively unexposed over this trip and gets the vote to resume winning ways.
