Genki lines up in terrific form and can add to his tally at the expense of Beaver Patrol, Greenslades and Barney McGrew to name but three. The term' model of consistency' certainly applies to Genki who has not been out of the first two in six subsequent starts since making his debut at Lingfield last October. Wins over six-furlongs at Folkestone, Newmarket, and more recently in the Shergar Sprint Cup at Ascot reveal that he is very much at the top of his game at present. Indeed, his latest victory has been backed up by the third horse home Kings Apostle at Newmarket since, and further success here could put Roger Charlton's gelding in the frame for the Ayr Gold Cup at the end of the month. He gets weight off fellow Ayr Gold Cup entry Beaver Patrol who limbered up for this by finishing a good second at Windsor recently. A close fifth in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood earlier, he is one of the leading challengers along with Greenslades who has come down the weights, and who will be ridden by Ryan Moore for the first time. Barney McGrew gained a first six-furlong success at Newmarket three weeks ago, but the feeling is that he will be slightly taken off his feet here, and Ceremonial Jade, who bounced back to form with a good second to Giganticus at Newmarket, is another that might find things happening too fast. The one that they all have to beat is Genki.
