In depth

Verdict

The short listed three are Astronomer Royal, Maker's Mark and Duke Of Tuscany, with the vote going to the first-named horse. The Aidan O'Brien-trained Astronomer Royal will attract plenty of interest here following his promising debut second and he warrants all due respect today. Maker's Mark showed plenty of promise for the future when third at Windsor on his debut and might prove the best of the home challenge. There is plenty of speed in Christalini's pedigree, while Richard Hannon's 32,000 guineas purchase, Duke Of Tuscany is another that has to be considered. Mick Channon's Fistral is related to a number of winners so is another to have a look at while, of the others, Bachnagairn will surely need further than today's trip to be at his best and Lights Of Vegas is another to have a look at in the betting. All in all, though, we will stick with Astronomer Royal.
