ridden over 4f out, always behind
chased leaders, ridden 4f out, weakened 3f out
held up in touch, went 2nd over 3f out, joined winner 2f out, no impression from over 1f out
made virtually all, shaken up over 1f out, soon well in command, ran on well
with winner until 5f out, weakened over 3f out
prominent, went 2nd over 4f out until over 3f out, soon outpaced
held up, pushed along over 4f out, never on terms
Shastye could provide the answer here but Massif Centrale rates as a big danger. The John Gosden-trained selection is beautifully bred, being a half-sister to the Arc winner Sagamix and Group 1 winner Sagacity. And she showed plenty of promise on her debut when seventh behind Motive, who has gone on to be narrowly denied in a handicap from a mark of 86. Normal improvement from her debut run should see her land a race of this nature. Massif Centrale is also well-related, being a half-brother to last year's Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Indian Haven. Much as running him in the Derby was highly ambitious, he too looks well up to landing a maiden, mainly based on his second over 10 furlongs here in May. These would seem to be the principals as Chapelco was a well-beaten sixth of seven at Newmarket on his debut, while Song Of The Sea has not revealed too much in three starts to date, and Devito was a well-beaten runner up Leicester and would need to improve on that. Once again, then, Shastye just gets the nod.
