Verdict
This all two-year-old meeting gets under way with a fillies' maiden in which Afar is likely to be supported to gain compensation for her defeat at the Curragh. A daughter of Galileo and a half-sister to a couple of smart winners, she started 7/4 favourite in a field of 20 but couldn't quite get there when mounting a challenge and faded inside the final furlong. MY LAUREATE makes a quick reappearance after her defeat in a Listed contest at Leopardstown on Saturday where she led until approaching the final furlong over 7f. He earlier narrow defeat by Cava over this trip at Fairyhouse would make her very difficult to beat. Laura Bullion found a mile much too far at Bellewstown and is better judged on her previous runs where she showed potential though Chestnut Express looks a more potent threat. She's improved with every run and only just failed to concede 8lb to Lady Marengo at Navan. Dermot Weld's beautifully-bred War Front filly Land Girl may prove best of the newcomers.
