In depth

Verdict

Waffle hasn't won since his racecourse debut three years ago but ran well over 6f at Doncaster on his reappearance. The Nicholls pair Masta Plasta and Striking Spirit both have plenty of early speed but may need more time before recapturing the winning thread, while Burning Thread faces a stiff task conceding weight to his rivals on his return to action. Elnawin proved himself a decent sprinter last year and could play a part but HAMISH MCGONAGALL is surely the one to beat. Tim Easterby's six-year-old is a 5f specialist so it was no surprise to see him weaken in the closing stages when third over 6f at Thirsk on his reappearance. That will have blown away any cobwebs and he is fancied to add to his three previous wins over C&D today.
