In depth

Verdict

Cudgel has placed in two of his three previous runs over fences and has been in good form over hurdles, winning twice at Hexham. James Walton’s gelding goes on the shortlist and is joined by Eagle De Guye, who has run a couple of decent races at Wetherby in recent weeks and still has scope. HANG TOUGH had trouble jumping out of desperate ground at Lingfield last month having won earlier at the same track. He’s probably still on a fair mark and Kevin Brogan’s claim will be a real plus today. Chanting Hill won at Kelso before falling at Newcastle but may prefer better ground.
