Verdict

Last years winner Court Of Appeal was in fine heart at the start of last season when wracking up a sequence of wins and a combination of a wet summer and a hike up the ratings meant we did not see too much more of him while when we did he failed to produce his best. He appeared to carry plenty of condition for his pipe opener at Southwell but raced with real enthusiasm and indicated another win might not be too far away. That win could well be today. Lucayon Dancer holds the aces on BHA ratings but a suspicion lingers that 12 furlongs could just be as far as he wants. He remains poorly handicapped so connections have rightly opted for claimers. Friends Hope is another with stamina reservations but comes here in fine form after success during the winter and a win at the end of last month over the course. He didn't appear the strongest of finishers when tackling the trip at Wolverhampton in January. One that certainly does not have stamina issues is Trance who last season contested the Cesarewitch. This outing is likely to be on the sharp side added to the fact it is his first outing of the season. A chance is taken with Court Of Appeal to resume winning ways.
