Chookie Hamilton would have claims on the pick of his form but, along with Show Trial, Ian Semple's gelding may again have to settle for a minor role and it may be worth taking a chance on the newcomer Letham Island. The selection makes plenty of appeal on pedigree being a half-sister by Trans Island to Wovoka and from the yard of Mark Johnston that has won this twice before in the last nine years, she would not need to be out of the ordinary to make a winning debut. Stablemate Greyfriars Abbey gave little sign for encouragement first time out and may be best watched. Like Mark Johnston, Gerard Butler has done well in this race in the past but his stable is hardly in flying form at present so his runner Risque Heights is probably best left out of calculations. On all known evidence, there is very little to recommend any of the other runners in the field and the safest option looks to be Letham Island, who would not need to be out of the ordinary to make a winning debut.
