Mister Mal is the call here to beat course and distance winners Encounter, Beauteous and Redoutable. Despite being a difficult horse to place the selection has his best opportunity off this mark than he has for a long while. Formerly with David Nicholls who failed to get a tune out of him, Richard Fahey has campaigned him differently and this now looks to be his best trip. With conditions to suit he holds every chance of landing his first race since May 2001. Encounter rarely runs a poor race and loves racing at this track. If the selection is below par then he could be the one to take advantage. Redoubtable is another who is generally consistent and happy at this track. Well drawn he should put up a good account of himself. Beauteous has not lived up to the hopes connections had of him as a juvenile but now he is on a fair mark he could go close with underfoot conditions the way he likes them.
