In depth

Verdict

John Gosden is sending his biggest-ever Carnival team and starts off with Azmeel with Ryan Moore replacing the injured William Buick. The Dee Stakes winner goes well fresh and will be here to give the yard an indicator of their Carnival chances. Godolphin have four entries here and the Maktoum family another six of the 14 runners. Frankie Dettori's mount Peligroso has some decent form but would probably prefer softer ground and Mahmood Al Zarooni could provide the boys in blue with the winner. Zeitoper was unbeaten in three starts in 2009 including a Group 3 and has got in here lightly. He should go well but a long absence is a concern so it's stablemate SIMON DE MONTFORT, a Group 3 winner in France on his return last April and successful on his racecourse debut, who gets the vote though the yard are also represented by the consistent Heliodor, ridden by stable jockey Ahmed Ajtebi.
