RUSSIAN FLAG is preferred to Joshua's Gold and Thistle in this competitive handicap. Russian Flag showed promise on his first run since arriving from France and his first outing for two years but he has failed to build on that. His latest performance does represent an improvement and he is still relatively unexposed so he may be worth one more chance in this modest handicap but it's not easy to get excited about his chances. Thistle is a fairly experienced performer and is capable of getting into the mix in a race such as this. He is having his first outing for a new yard this afternoon and market confidence behind his chances would be encouraging. Gun Smith ran one of his better races last time and thus makes the short-list whilst Joshua's Gold ran well on his final start over hurdles at Wetherby in June and comes into this race fit from the Flat. Not an easy race to call with few boasting solid recent form and Russian Flag wouldn't be one to get carried away with.
