Verdict

FRANCKY DU BERLAIS aims to register a hat-trick in this race and it would be a brave call to suggest that Peter Bowen's ten-year-old could not repeat the dose off a mark just 1lb higher than last year. Just a neck separated he and La Domaniale a year ago but Jonjo O'Neill's mare will need to do better today given she's progressed up the weights courtesy of victories at Stratford and Aintree. Courtland has won five of his nine starts over fences and ticks the box marked progressive. Born Famous has really hit his straps since joining Iain Jardine and has crept in at the bottom of the weights by virtue of a penalty acquired for a win at Perth six days ago. Gloire D'Athon won readily at Uttoxeter and two wins at Sandown tells us he is capable of showing form when going this way around. And The New is very much an old stager but he's demonstrated a liking for Market Rasen this summer.
