In depth

Verdict

Previous winners Giovanna and Ceoperk both have to be respected but look worth taking on under their penalties and we prefer Irish Totty. The selection showed great promise on her debut at Taunton when chasing home She's Our Daisy and, with further improvement to come, she looks worth a punt. The Richard Phillips-trained Giovanna has done little wrong so far but has yet to prove her effectiveness over two miles and is far from certain to stay the trip. Smart Thinker was well beaten on her first start and needs to improve and of more interest may be Michael Scudamore's Classic Cliche mare School Class who is out of a sister to Buckfast Abbey. She makes most appeal among the newcomers. David Wintle's Ceoperk made a winning debut at Folkestone and lost no caste in defeat at Towcester last time so has to be respected under his penalty but Irish Totty looks good and gets the vote.
