led, headed just over 2f out, rallied and effort approaching final furlong, kept on same pace
tracked leaders, went 2nd 7f out, driven to lead over 2f out, stayed on well
held up towards rear, ridden over 2f out, never dangerous

Mark Johnston's Always Cruising disappointed on his debut and is probably best watched at present so it may be worth taking a chance with Monterrico, who gets the vote ahead of Montevetro who looks the pick of the newcomers. The selection stepped up on his debut effort as a two-year-old when a creditable third at Leicester when stepped up to seven furlongs. There should be a lot more improvement to come now that Geoff Wragg's colt tackles 1m2f and he looks the one to beat. Hugh Morrison's Rock Peak ran encouragingly on his only start as a juvenile and should also appreciate the longer trip today, while David Elsworth's Silver Waters belied market odds when a decent second in a Kempton handicap last time but this looks tougher. Persian Flyer is probably best watched on his debut and of more interest first time out may be Richard Hannon's Montevetro, who is bred to be useful. Monterrico has the form in the book though and he looks the one to be on.
