A tricky opener sees Western Roots nominated ahead of Recalcitrant and Measured Response. Western Roots has dropped to a mark from which he ought to be competitive if anywhere near his best of the past year and a fair run at Leicester last time brings him here in fairly good heart. General Flumpa and Recalcitrant are both four pounds above previous best winning marks, although they cannot be ruled out of good runs, while Sir Haydn comes here on the back of a fair 10-furlong run here on the all-weather, but in general he is not so good on Turf, and Measured Response seemed to improve on the soft at Chepstow last time and holds claims if able to now build on that. Finally, Border Edge is a bit in and out formwise but he cannot be ruled out if putting his best foot forward, and Royal Indulgence runs again quickly following Monday's Chepstow win, although he possibly got the run of the race there and has more to do if he is to repeat that success. Once again, then, the selection is Western Roots.
