    Verdict

A very competitive event and any number can appear on a long shortlist of possibles. These include topweight Haripur, just touched off at Goodwood last time after having scored twice in succession here over a furlong shorter. Add into the mix the five course and distance winners in the contest, namely, Moayed, Waterside, Sir Francis, Roy McAvoy and The Best Yet, and you get a flavour of the race's competitive nature. Both Waterside and Sir Francis have been disappointing on Turf this year but now return to the Polytrack. Roy McAvoy won twice on the Polytrack last season and has claims from just a four-pound higher mark than in the most-recent of those. The Best Yet has won on Turf this season so seems to have improved. Of the others, Royal Storm has been performing with credit on Turf lately, and he is now rated a pound lower on the Polytrack than when last winning on the surface. Lifted Way has been running well but is untried on the all-weather. The lightly-raced Vindication is conceivably well handicapped, as is dual course winner Majhool, and recent Leicester winner Blue Trojan is another to consider. As we say, it's competitive, but we'll side - tentatively - with The Best Yet.
