Not much strength in depth, so it may be worth chancing that Avicia is on a going day and she can build on the promise she has shown on a couple of previous visits to Lingfield. Newnham and Garibaldi are others to bear in mind, while Xacobeo showed marked improvement at Catterick earlier in the month and is shortlisted as an each-way alternative. The son of Montjeu cost 70,000gns as a foal and is bred to appreciate this trip. He has been very green in both his previous starts but should go well if he adapts to the artificial surface. Garibaldi has only been out once since the summer and now has something to prove. He did handle the track well at the start of the year, though, and is one to take careful note of from here. Newnham has each way claims on the pick of his efforts and has a sound enough chance on these terms. However, he is exposed and looks vulnerable to an improver once more. Therefore, we go with Avicia, who is likely to represent good value in the betting. The track suits the daughter of Vettori well and, considering that she was not far behind the 82-rated Viz on her debut, she should be capable of a bold show is she consents to run to her best.
