Carrowdore is given a tentative selection in a competitive heat, with Top Tenor, Kristoffersen, Duc's Dream and Mad Carew rated as the main dangers. The selection has put in a number of good placed efforts since winning over a mile at Goodwood in September 2002 and, in the context of this race, holds solid claims. OK, he has not raced for 100 days but his trainer can get them fit first time up and the step up to 12 furlongs should suit the colt. Star Seventeen has won twice at Southwell over 12 furlongs but acts on the Polytrack and holds a chance on her best form. Miss Koen seemed to show improved form here last time and a repeat of that effort might see her placed. Top Tenor won over 14 furlongs at Salisbury in August and, if first-time blinkers have the desired effect, he could go well although his two runs on this surface have told us little. Kristoffersen is also blinkered for the first time and has form enough to play a hand in this if putting his best foot forward. Both of Coolfore Jade's wins have come at Southwell and, on balance, she has a little to find on form. Duc's Dream, who won over 11 furlongs on Turf in the summer, is another to consider, with Johnny Murtagh an eye-catching booking. Rainbow World has shown little in three runs since winning over nine furlongs in Ireland, but Mad Carew has solid form in the context of this race and is sure to attract support. However, for us it's Carrowdore, who can gain only his second career win.
