This is tricky with Chief Exec being a tentative choice ahead of Border Edge, Sound That Alarm and, maybe, Prairie Oyster. Chief Exec has, at least, been given more of a chance by the handicapper now following some inconclusive efforts of late. Much as he has no soft-ground form, a return to the best of his two-year-old and early three-year-old form would give him hopes, and this will probably not take a lot of winning. Border Edge was backed at Epsom during the week and made late headway, although his best form has so far come on quicker going. Visored for the first time, Sound That Alarm would have to get back to his juvenile form to score, at which age he notched a heavy-ground win. Fantasy Crusader is weighted to go well but has no soft-ground form, while Chasing The Dream has something to prove at present. Balerno is another that has yet to run well on soft, but it will be interesting to see how the lightly-raced Prairie Oyster fares at this trip and on this going. Finally, Grizedale has a good chance on 2003 form but has been very in-and-out of late, although that does not entirely negate his chance. In conclusion, then, in a bit of a headscratcher of a race, we will side with Chief Exec.
