Newnham is taken to bounce back, with Captain Margaret, True Companion, Red Birr and Pactolos Way others in with a shout. Newnham had been in great form on the all-weather earlier this year, reeling off a sequence of four straight victories before finally tasting defeat here on his last outing in March. For one reason or another he has been absent since, but that could work in his favour as he returns fresher than most, and is sure to have been well galloped. With Eddie Ahern in the plate, he can storm back with a win. Captain Margaret is another that returns from a lengthy absence, having finished second to Solva at Nottingham in May. She goes well round here and is worth a mention. True Companion was a beaten favourite on heavy going at Haydock recently, and is a bit out of form at present, but cannot be ruled out on earlier efforts here, while Red Birr is another course-and-distance winner. Pactolos Way won a maiden well enough at Wolverhampton, and at the age of three may have more to offer, but we shall side with Newnham as the answer.
