In depth

Verdict

This dreadful affair can go to Jost Van Dyke ahead of Jade's Ballet and newcomer New York Oscar. Jost Van Dyke lines up with plenty of experience to call on, having had 10 career starts already, and indeed was successful in similar company for Rod Millman at Yarmouth in the summer. Fifth on the Southwell Fibresand last time, he is distinctly moderate, but in the context of this race, still has leading claims. Jade's Ballet will at least have learnt something from three moderate runs on the all-weather and has a good draw on the inside, while any support in the ring for Neville Callaghan's debutante New York Oscar should be heeded. On breeding, the son of Tobougg will benefit from another furlong in time, but he need not be anything special to take a hand. The pin comes down on the Eddie Ahern-ridden Jost Van Dyke.
