held up in rear, headway 2f out, ridden and kept on, nearest finish
in touch, ridden over 2f out, soon one pace
led 9f, ridden and stayed on final furlong
keen, tracked leaders, ridden 3f out, weakened over 1f out
pulled hard, in touch, ridden to chase leader 2f out, soon every chance, stayed on same pace final furlong
chased leaders, ridden and led 1f out, headed and stayed on same pace inside final furlong
held up mid-division, headway and wide 2f out, soon ridden, ran on to lead inside final furlong, soon headed
held up in rear, never placed to challenge
slowly into stride, raced well in rear, never nearer
always towards rear
very slowly away, always in rear
This is not a straightforward race and from a shortlist of Burgundy, Malibu, Doris Souter and Edgehill, the vote goes to Burgundy. Resonate and Burgundy are at the top end of what they have achieved but have some solid efforts from around today's marks to their names, with the latter being better drawn today. Malibu looked to have better to come when racing here on January 15, so don't rule out a good run from him. Fisby, who is due to be raised by three pounds in future ratings, is closely-weighted with Burgundy based on course and distance form of February 12, so afford him respect. Perfidious has claims based on the best of his Turf form, while even though Doris Souter has yet to build on early promise, she is worth a look in the betting. Edgehill is held by Burgundy based on course and distance form of February 16, but that was his first run in a while and he's entitled to improve on that. Eijaaz has yet to build on his recent course and distance win, on which form he holds Bobby Charles, although the latter appeared to lose his action at a crucial point on that occasion and might get closer today. Jacaranda is well handicapped based on his best Turf form, but has cut little ice in two all-weather runs to date. Finally, Jomus won from today's mark over a mile last March, but more-recent efforts have been tame, while Bishops Finger, despite a fair recent effort, and Gold Guest, need to build, overall, on what they have so far achieved. As we say, it's not straightforward, and maybe the answer lies in Burgundy.
