In depth

Verdict

Several of these can be considered as live contenders, with Mad Carew representing the best value as he bids to get one over on his old rivals The Violin Player and Dovedon Hero, who are respected with their claims. As is High Point, who was third in last season's Cesarewich, but he has a long absence to overcome and this trip may be on the sharp side for him. The Violin Player is likely to be a popular choice as he bids to get back to winning ways after his narrow defeat at the hands of Golano just over a week ago. He is weighted to just come out on top of that personal battle this afternoon and looks sure to run his race again. However, Mad Carew has been given a real chance to shine at the weights and, with this course and distance holding absolutely no fears for him, the claims held by the mount of Jimmy Fortune are too tempting to ignore today.
