Barbary Master landed a Navan bumper on heavy ground before an eye-catching hurdles debut at Punchestown where he overcame sketchy jumping to get within 5 lengths of the odds-on Eskylane. Fakir D'alene, a winner between the flags, was headed close home by Oscar Thyne in a similar race at Kilbeggan but the winner has done little for the form. Fangio De Vassy won a point-to-point at Dromahane last month and is bred to be a staying chaser but Forged In Fire beat the top-class Ferny Hollow in a bumper at this fixture a year ago. Joseph O'Brien's charge ran poorly on his hurdling bow at Navan and though better than that is best watched for now. LIFETIME AMBITION was narrowly beaten in that latter event after a sustained battle with the winner. He can go one better though winning bumper Stattler will go close if his jumping improves from his hurdling debut at Naas. Brazos and Lucky Tenner were engaged at Limerick yesterday
