In depth

Verdict

An intriguing small-field contest with the form standard clearly set by IMPERIAL ALCAZAR. Fergal O'Brien's gelding has enjoyed an excellent season and his latest effort when beaten a head in the controversial Cheltenham contest won by Protektorat is far and away the strongest performance on offer. He should prove good enough but faces fascinating opposition in Nicky Henderson's Fugitives Drift, a very promising third on his racecourse debut in a Newbury bumper last March and also Nigel Twiston-Davies' point-to-point winner Muckamore, who makes his Rules debut for his new yard. Note the market reaction to both these potentially useful hurdling recruits.
