Quite a competitive heat in which Ben Ewar would have an outstanding chance of this mark if he went anything like as well as when just being touched into third behind Rooster Booster in last year's County Hurdle. However, his rapid decline in the weights can be attributed to breaking blood vessels and a bout of lameness which suggests that he is best watched until showing some signs that he is recovering his form. Formal Bid does well in this sort of contest but is thoroughly exposed at the moment. He does love some cut though and that may be enough to keep him galloping into a place when others cry enough. Samsaam takes a slight drop in class here from his last outing when he was well beaten at Cheltenham. However, that was his first run since April and after a month to recover he should come here in good order. He has some good form on the flat on soft ground and with the expert guidance of A P McCoy he is the selection here. This trip should suit Bak To Bill, who has some good form over slightly further and also with cut in the ground. He does have the look of an exposed horse at the moment, but has still been running consistently for all that and could claim a place. The one who could give the selection most to do is Mrs Pickles, who stayed on strongly to win in the mud at Chepstow last time and gets in here off a feather weight. She seems to take her racing well and could improve again with ground conditions in her favour.
