Yandina gets a tentative vote ahead of Tender The Great, Carcinetto and Rydal Mount to name but three other major contenders. This looks a trappy affair as we are guessing on the fitness of Yandina, but Barry Hills seems to have his string in good order at present, so hopefully the well-bred daughter of Danehill can pay to follow. She certainly looked the part when opening her account on Turf at Lingfield last September, but endured a nightmare start to life in handicap company when last of 14 on the Polytrack at the Surrey course later that month. Young Patrick Hills had plenty underneath him that day, but found himself trapped on the inside and failed to get anything like a decent run, in the end easing his mount down. She starts the season on a fair mark, and if anywhere near fit, should run a big race. Tender The Great had the run of the race when scraping home at Warwick three weeks ago and will find this step up in grade tougher, while Carcinetto is also upped in class despite being edged out when sent off as favourite at Chepstow last time. Rydal Mount showed big improvement when second at Kempton on her return, and is entitled to go close also, but for the winner we shall rely on Yandina in the belief that she is ready to do herself justice.
