In depth

Verdict

A chance is taken with China Cherub over the likes of Aspen Falls, Balik Pearls and Hypocrisy to name but a few. China Cherub is only lightly-raced, and has shaped very well on all three starts to date. Henry Candy's filly has been crying out for a step up to seven furlongs judged on the way that she has been coming late on the scene so far, including here 18 days ago on her handicap debut. She raced wide and could have done with some cover that day, so hopefully, despite being drawn in stall 10, Dane O'Neill will be able to tuck in just off the pace before pouncing up the hill. Aspen Falls won over this trip at Musselburgh 12 months ago, but has struggled a bit with her handicap mark since. She is gradually coming back down though, and you can be sure that Sir Mark Prescott will find a suitable opportunity soon. First-time blinkers helped Balik Pearls to gain her first Turf success at Warwick recently, but she will do well to follow up off her revised mark, while dual all-weather winner Hypocrisy hails from a stable that likes to land a touch, so any movement in the ring would be interesting. China Cherub has plenty of scope though, and can take this before going on to better things.
