Verdict

It is always a 'head-scratcher' in deciding which of David Nicholls' entries to go with in races like this but, as Smiftys Night is far less exposed than Online Investor, he gets the vote. With Mynd and Misaro making the most appeal out of the rest. The last named hails from a yard that have returned to form of late and ran his best race for a while when chasing home Bond Playboy in a similar contest last week. Still very lightly raced, Paul Blockley has plenty of horse to play with off his current mark. The three-year-old is 5lb better off with Mynd from the last time they met and a bold bid cannot be ruled out this afternoon. Online Investor also put in one of his better performances on his latest start, where he came with a solid challenge inside the distance. However, his recent profile does not make for the best of reading and he is not one to be going overboard about if the ground is really testing. Therefore, it may be more beneficial to give Smirfys Night another chance as he has strung together some fair efforts in defeat of late. The son of Tina's Pet dropped to a very attractive mark after a couple of modest efforts after a long lay-off before this season. Now back to something like his best, Smirfys Night is now 23lb lower in the ratings when he was at his best and, considering his trainer's habit of getting the best out of horses of his type, the gelding has plenty in his favour today.
