This looks a trappy little contest in which we will give the tentative vote to EFFIGY, while Vainglory and Cara's Request both warrant plenty of respect. The selection won back to back handicaps at Salisbury and Pontefract last September and was raised ten pounds in the weights for his troubles. Although he was beaten off a mark of 75 at Newbury last time out he did catch the eye running into third place. He looks more than good enough to win a race of this nature and with the yard in such good form of late he is difficult to oppose. Vainglory earned himself a mark of 90 last summer without getting his head in front but in the past year he has dwindled down the weights. He looks potentially well treated now running off a mark of 83 and if he can recapture his best form he will not be far away come the business end of the race. Cara's Request is only lightly raced with four runs under his belt. He broke his maiden tag when winning nicely on a testing surface at Nottingham on his penultimate outing. He did however disappoint on his handicap debut running off a mark of 80 and with two more pounds to carry this time around others are preferred. So for the winner we return to Effigy.
