Verdict

There is a large turnout here, but plenty of deadwood, and we take Easy Rider to score at the expense of Smith N Allan Oils and Fine Frenzy. The booking of Kieren Fallon for Ed James's three-year-old catches the eye, as does his last time out second to Mount Royale at Brighton. Sent off as favourite there due to a drop in grade and the fact that he was best in at the weights, the gelding was only just denied. Fallon rides him for the first time and his strength in the saddle could prove decisive. Smith N Allan Oils has taken on better company since landing a Thirsk maiden last year and looks best of the four-year-olds. He can go close as well, while Fine Frenzy has not lived up to expectations since winning at Windsor last May and has had her sights steadily lowered. They are the main contenders but Easy Rider can gallop his way to victory under the champion.
