Som Tala may be good enough to make a winning debut at the expense of Calcutta Cup, Tayman, To Dubai and Cool Customer. Som Tala holds an entry in this year's Vodafone Derby, and while that may be a bit optimistic, he could easily prove sharp enough at the first time of asking judged by the way that the rest of Mick Channon's team is firing. A son of Fantastic Light, he cost 100,000gns and is related to One So Wonderful on the dam's side. Providing that he handles the ground today, a big run is on the cards and we shall take him to outgun some more experienced opponents including Calcutta Cup. Mark Johnston's colt, fifth on his Lingfield bow, should improve for the step up in trip and can be placed at least. Tayman's stable landed a punt with a returner at Warwick on Tuesday so the market should be heeded as regards his chance, while To Dubai holds no fancy entries but could be a smart filly in the making on breeding. Cool Customer is not bred to get today's trip but did look one-paced over a mile on his Lingfield return in March. He does not make as much appeal as Som Tala who can go in first time on the way to better things.
