In depth

Verdict

Mark Johnston won this last year and Captain Webb must be respected despite having had just the one run in a modest maiden at Brighton at the backend of last season. However, we're going to take a chance with Bright Falcon. Stuart Parr has made a satisfactory start to his first season at Bawtry and he may have inherited a useful sort in the selection. Bright Falcon's Derby entry may be flying a little high but there was a lot to like about his defeat of No To Trident in a York maiden in October. The booking of Jamie Spencer for this Hawk Wing colt points to a big run and he should go well. Segal has been busy on the all-weather and has a progressive profile; we should hear more from him over the coming months but there are several potential improvers in this line-up and the market should shed some light on expectations. No To Trident is more exposed than most but we do know that he has trained on and he may well be able to win again but he may not want too much cut in the ground and we're going to take a chance with Bright Falcon.
