        Verdict

        SPARTAN SPIRIT was well backed on his reappearance over C&D last week and duly obliged. Jimmy Fortune could even afford to ease him down in the closing stages so a 6lb penalty looks unlikely to prevent a follow-up. Striding Edge registered a rare victory when scoring over track and trip last month but immediately disappointed when only sixth back at this track, while Beggers Belief was disqualified for his jockey weighing in light last time though wasn't beaten far and looks capable of winning off his current mark soon. The Blue Dog looks best of the remainder.
