Verdict

EXEMPLARY is open to plenty of improvement and could be well-treated off this mark of 80; Danger Mulally and Into Wain can fight it out for second spot. The selection was last seen winning easily at Bath in September. He has very different conditions to face today but he is bred to get this longer trip and this progressive colt can make mincemeat of some beatable rivals. Danger Mulally has been in great form this winter and the handicapper hasn't been too harsh, as he is just 7lb higher now than when winning here in December. Since then he has won again and been a head second so his form is hard to crab, although it was a two-runner race here last-time out and he still has stamina to prove in a truly run race. Into Wain makes his handicap debut today and he also may have a lenient mark, able to race off 69. He is a half-brother to Mutaahab and also Noble Citizen, and if he lasts home over this longer trip then he could serve it up to the favourite. The market may be important here as he was beaten by a stablemate of Exemplary on his debut and therefore Mark Johnston should know where he stands. Beat Route has shaped with promise on his last two starts, however this looks a tough race and he is readily passed over in favour of Exemplary.
