In depth

Verdict

NORMAN ORPEN probably found 7f too short despite getting up to catch Whispering Spirit at Lingfield and had earlier won nicely over this C&D. He's been raised 4lb but Kieren Fallon should get him home. Tiradito has had 13 starts to date but has never raced over this trip. He's generally been outpaced at the business end over 7f so isn't certain to be suited by today's mile. Private Joke made a promising debut over this track and trip and had very little to beat over an extra furlong at Wolverhampton. The handicapper has had little to go on and John Gosden's charge could have been underestimated. Avon River has won twice on Polytrack, both times here including over the trip, and can make his presence felt but Khanivorous is looking a few pounds high in the weights and Jungle Bay is having his first run for Jane Chapple-Hyam after arriving from France.
