Eighteenfifty is better than he showed when almost pulled up at Ascot however a safer bet may be HAARTH SOVEREIGN who has looked an improved performer on this surface. Walter Swinburn's gelding is 2 from 4 on the all-weather and his recent second at Sandown suggested that he is in good form and that he can still win off this sort of mark. Although he is yet to win over this trip, he does stay well and a big run is expected. Black Or Red managed to gain a deserved first win at Ffos Las in July but subsequently was hit with a 9lb rise in the weights. A good second at Thirsk suggested that he may be up to defying this mark of 66 but for the time being we will sit and watch. Alnwick is a strong stayer who has some solid form around here; the problem is that he rarely runs a bad race so he is still 4lb above his highest winning mark. Actodos needs watching in the betting coming here from 787 days on the sidelines, Sufad is starting to look well-handicapped, whilst Relative Strength will find this easier as he drops in class and he has won two of his three starts at the track. Another open handicap, but the narrow vote is given to Haarth Sovereign.
