In depth

Verdict

Granary Girl is selected ahead of Come What July and Royal Guest. That said Ruwain can also go close and is worth bearing in mind. The last named is still a maiden but would not have much improvement to find to score in this company. he is unexposed in handicaps, so is one to monitor closely in the betting. Royal Guest can be slowly away, so this frailty has to be built into betting plans and prices. Still, he is not without the ability to play a part at this level, so makes it onto the shortlist. Come What July stays a lot further than this but is versatile regarding the trip. Derek Shaw has his string firing just now and, as he may have been in need of the run in each of his last two starts, he can be expected to be a lot sharper today. Nevertheless, Granary Girl makes more appeal on this occasion. The six-year-old copes with the surface here and, as this is her optimum trip, the mount of Jimmy Quinn gets the vote today.
