The market should definitely be noted in the finale, but a tentative vote goes the way of Slick ahead of fellow newcomers Pearly Star and Grenfell, with Waterloo Son and Gay Gladys just two more to note. Nicky Henderson is getting his team spot on now and the whole team are beginning to step up a gear in their work. That includes Slick who by all accounts has done enough homework at Seven Barrows to merit support today. The French-bred is well related to some decent Flat horses and if he has inherited any of their speed, he could be one to follow. Pearly Star is related to former top two-mile chaser Pearlyman on the dam's side and is yet another to make a note of, especially when he goes over fences in time. Grenfell hails from a stable that had a bumper winner on Thursday with Giovanni, while Waterloo Son will come on for his Chepstow debut on heavy ground. David Elsworth saddles two, Hi Humpfree and Gay Gladys, with the latter being a half-sister to three Flat winners. All in all, an interesting contest with an eye to the future, and only a small wager is recommended on Slick.
