Verdict

With a rapidly slipping handicap mark, today could be the day to catch MATER MATER now tried again over this shorter trip. Admittedly he has been thrashed out of sight in two recent runs but Andrew Reid's three-year-old should be at home over this distance and has already been tried here a couple of times, which won't do any harm, so we hope he can provide a turn-up. Lady Lam is a more obvious contender and is feared after two good recent efforts in defeat, with a course win already to her name and Hughes up. Watchmaker won a course and distance handicap from 1lb higher a couple of years ago but recent form suggests that he may again have to settle for the frame.
