In depth

Verdict

Ravenous was due to run on the Flat yesterday but was second in better company at Wincanton last month. Dr Richard Kimble has won five times on the level but Mark Johnston’s four-year-old has been largely disappointing over timber. Lucky Lover Boy went close here last month before grabbing a narrow-margin victory at Newcastle. He is steadily improving and makes his handicap debut but Excellent Team was coming up short in modest races before his break and World Premier went off the boil after winning at Hereford in November. THIRD ESTATE has been waiting for better ground and ran well here in the autumn. He is still 5lb higher but Jack Andrews takes off 7lb and there is not a wide weight range in this.
