Double Deputy can make a winning start over timber, with Woodwish, Rightful Ruler, Surricate and Neutrino worth noting. Although lacking any experience over hurdles, you can be sure that John Quinn will have thoroughly schooled Double Deputy, and the five-year-old is taken to pop in first time. The son of Sadler's Wells, a half-brother to Lend a Hand, looked a horse with a big future when landing his first two career outings at Goodwood and Doncaster two years ago, making all on both occasions, and added another success for Godolphin at Nottingham last September. Unfortunately, he has finished stone last on both outings on the level for new connections, and now has his attention turned to the winter game. Quite simply, if he shows a semblance of the ability displayed in the past, this would be a formality, but as we are guessing on that score, he cannot be considered a good thing. Woodwish was claimed after finishing second in Auteuil in May, but is best watched on this fast ground, while fellow French import Surricate's chance may be highlighted by the performance of his conqueror Delray Beach who turns out in the preceding race. Rightful Ruler has been placed behind two decent sorts since going hurdling, but has had a break, and Neutrino is fit from the Flat but might be best watched unless the market speaks in his favour. Our vote goes to Double Deputy.
