In depth

Verdict

Solid and consistent Charming Lad may well make the journey from Leicestershire worthwhile and it's likely he'll return home with place money at least as he has his ground and should surely run his race. It's tempting to row in with him but WINTER ALCHEMY is given the chance to build on an excellent back-to-form effort last time when runner-up to My Friend George at Kelso, having travelled so well through the race and looking the winner going to the last. He has his ground and, although not totally reliable, he's the one to beat if things drop his way. Chicago Outfit was 6l away in third in that Kelso contest and remains respected, whilst course and distance winner, Twice Lucky, inhabits a decent mark and warrants a place on the shortlist. Northern Executive is lightly-raced over fences but has shown enough to be of interest.
