The eyes are immediately drawn towards the course and distance winners, Iron Express and Gimme Shelter, here with our preference being for Iron Express, with Red Perk another to consider. The selection has actually won from just a pound-higher mark than today and, as we say, has proven that he can go well here, and this is a very demanding track. A possible downside is that he has not raced for 114 days, but we will take that chance. Red Perk's form is solid and he finished 10-and-a-quarter lengths in front of Gimme Shelter when they met at Carlisle over three-and-a-quarter miles last time, and the latter is now only two pounds worse off. However, a further point is that Gimme Shelter is now just a pound above the mark from which he won this race two years ago. Leyland Comet won his maiden chase well enough and should progress further, but his task is not easy off topweight, while there is no doubt that Jacksonville is potentially well-handicapped although his latest run did not inspire confidence. The hunter chaser Go Nomadic might find one or two too good for him, Red Alert Man, up five pounds for his Leicester success, races from four pounds out of the weights, and Thorntoun House, despite first-time blinkers, is well out of the weights and hard to fancy. This returns us to Iron Express, who gets the vote.
