CALAFICIAL has won a couple of Lingfield bumpers, and could break his duck over fences here at the first time of asking, with the main dangers likely to be Tuskar Rock and Pickamus. Alan King's gelding has been off the track since March, but will undoubtedly have been well schooled. The yard's in good form, but as with a number here, you're taking on trust the jumping ability. The ground may be a concern as on the one previous occasion he ran on good to soft turf he finished well down the field, but he was among the top weights that day. He's got a couple of provisional Cheltenham entries. Tuskar Rock has been running well over hurdles, including in handicap company. This looks like a race he's capable of winning for the in-form local Venetia Williams, and he's her only runner on the card. Pickamus has shown up well in his previous outings, and his best effort to date came when beaten on the line at Warwick nearly a year ago. He can handle cut the ground, and this is probably his optimum trip having struggled over further. Any support for Jonjo O'Neill's debutant Ellen Street should be noted, but our preference is for Calaficial.
