        Verdict

        Escape Clause, Zurbaran and Northern Boy are the three for the shortlist here and Escape Clause is taken to register his first success. Kevin Morgan's Zurbaran showed much improved form at Nottingham last time on heavy ground, staying on well to be a good second. He was well backed that day after showing little on his debut, and with testing ground prevailing here, he looks sure to go close. After a good third at Leicester on his debut, Northern Boy met a useful type in Guilia at Thirsk next time and went down by just over a length, an effort that was given a boost when Guilia chased home Scottish Stage at Newbury last week on her next start. Northern Boy hails from a yard in form and can go well. After being beaten only half a length on his Newmarket debut, Escape Clause was made odds on favourite to score on his Sandown re-appearance but found Deepwater Bay too good. The winner gave Final Verse a good race at Goodwood yesterday so the form looks solid. Escape Clause showed he handles give in the ground on his debut and he can run away from his rivals here.
