In a competitive opener, Golden Dixie is selected ahead of Indian Trail and Northern Empire. A number of these need career-best efforts if they are to score today, including the in-form Indian Trail and Golden Dixie, but they both possess a turn of foot in this company and that is a useful asset. As such, we will nominate Golden Dixie to go well. The Jobber ran well in a Listed race at Beverley last time and could yet go well from his career-high rating. Cape Royal won this race last year from a two-pounds lower mark and, even though that came on heavy going, a run for a place cannot be ruled out. Special Day is proving admirably consistent but has been raised six pounds for another narrow defeat, and Northern Empire certainly looked like he had had his spirit rekindled on his first start for Kevin Ryan last time and he could be very well handicapped. Being five pounds better off for the short head that Golden Dixie beat him at Doncaster, Jack Rackham also gets a good shout, and Hoh Hoh Hoh was receiving two pounds when beaten two and three quarter lengths by Indian Trail at Sandown and is now eight pounds better off so his chance has to be respected too. Although he is ten now, Corridor Creeper still has some lead in his pencil and has dropped to a very fair mark, and Tabaret has certainly dropped to a reasonable mark if he can get back to his best of the last 18 months. For the selection, though, we will stick with Golden Dixie.
